Shipping a Full Wedding Dress

If your gown is currently stored in a keepsake box, you can ship it that way, but it’s often not the most economical option. Instead, we recommend removing it from the box and packing it more compactly to reduce shipping costs.

Before folding:

  • Remove any tissue paper or cardboard bust forms

  • If your dress has a crinoline layer (the puffy underlayer), consider removing it (see above video tutorial). This layer adds significant bulk (but not weight) and is rarely used in our designs unless previously discussed. This is NOT a required step; only do it if you feel comfortable.

Folding instructions:

  1. Lay the gown flat, face down, on a clean surface.

  2. Smooth out the skirt and train.

  3. Fold the left and right sides of the skirt and train inward until they match the width of the bodice.

  4. Flip the now folded skirt up and over the bodice once or twice to form a nice bundle. If needed, fold the entire gown in half again.

  5. Place the folded gown into an appropriately sized box.

Include in your box:

  • Your completed love note template (if ordering items with handwritten love notes)

  • A sheet of paper with your name, phone number, and mailing address

  • Any other items we discussed during your consult to be used in your keepsakes.

    • Please, only include what we discussed during your keepsake consult to avoid excess return shipping.

Shipping carriers:
We recommend UPS or FedEx for tracking reliability. The free site Pirate Ship can help you find the best rates and print your labels at home. USPS flat rate boxes are also a good option, but may not be as cost-effective for full gowns.

Insurance:
Shipping carriers typically won’t assign replacement value to vintage or heirloom gowns. You’re welcome to add insurance if it gives you peace of mind, but the most important thing is to include tracking.

  • Optional: Add delivery signature confirmation if desired

Once your gown is on the way, send us a text or email with the tracking number. When it arrives, we’ll confirm receipt with a photo of its condition, then the first half of your invoice will be due. As we dive into your project, we'll send some fun progress updates and photos along the way.

We can’t wait to help turn your gown into something truly special for you and your family!

Shipping Alteration Scraps or Small Items

If you're sending alteration scraps, smaller parts of a gown, or meaningful add-ons like a “something blue” or a loved one’s shirt, here’s how to prep your materials so they arrive safe, organized, and ready to become something beautiful.

Before packing:

  • Send everything your seamstress gave you. This may include lining, satin, lace, glitter layers, tulle, beads, buttons, etc.

  • Place small items like beads or buttons in a sealed bag

  • Place all gown scraps together in a larger bag to keep like materials grouped

  • If you’re including additional items like bridesmaid dress hems, dad’s shirt, or other keepsake fabrics or items, bag each separately and label by type or person

Include in your package:

  • Your completed love note template (if ordering items with handwritten messages)

  • A sheet of paper with your name, phone number, and mailing address

  • Any other materials we discussed during your consult

  • Please only send what we’ve planned to use—this helps avoid excess return shipping

Shipping carriers:
We recommend USPS flat rate boxes for these smaller packages, they’re affordable, come with insurance and tracking, and arrive quickly. You can also use UPS or FedEx if you prefer. The free site Pirate Ship is a helpful tool to compare rates and print labels from home.

Insurance:
Most carriers won’t assign value to vintage or sentimental fabrics. You're welcome to add insurance if it brings peace of mind, but the most important step is to include tracking.

  • Optional: Add delivery signature confirmation if desired

Once your package is on the way, send us a text or email with the tracking number. When it arrives, we’ll confirm receipt with a photo of everything you sent and its condition, then finalize the design plan with the given materials. From there, the first half of your invoice will be due. As we dive into your project, we'll send some fun progress updates and photos along the way.
